One of my favorite things about being a dad is watching my kids become aware of things. (If I was totally honest, this is very annoying at times as well.)
It is the small things that they notice. Aubrie is very big into our conversations right now. She always wants to know what I am telling mommy or vice versa. She hates to be left in the dark.
Noah seems to become aware through his sister, which makes sense since she is older. Even so, he has his own moments of realization. His big trick these days is learning songs. It is cute when he comes home and has learned a new song and loves to sing it all the way through. He is still not good with his “L” sounds and so some songs sound a little funnier than others.
I love the process of them becoming aware. They want to know how things work, why things exist, and why things happen. Sometimes it is hard. Aubrie is learning that there are bad people in the world. Awareness is not always a great thing.
This past weekend Pastor Larry challenged us to become more aware of God in our lives. Honestly, I have not done a great job of that. I am already aware of God in my life but after Sunday’s sermon, I was going to try and build some new habits. So here are my excuses as to why I failed.
- It was my first week back to work post-vacation. (It was busy)
- I didn’t add it to my calendar.
- I didn’t set up any reminders.
- By failing to plan, I planned to fail.
So this week will be different. This week I have set up a reminder via ifttt.com. (If you are not familiar with it check it out. It is free and pretty neat.) It is a great program that will follow different formulas you set up. I have set up a formula to basically tell the website that if it is 9am then it should text me the phrase “God loves you.” It is a simple daily reminder, as my day is getting started, that God loves me and is in control of my life. It will be my reminder that if I have been too busy with the kids or work, that before my day gets to0 far away from me, I remember that God loves me.
What will you do to become more aware of God in your life today?
If you missed the sermon this past weekend check it out below and leave me a comment of how you will become more aware of God in your life.
