Day 29 of 31!
Every morning I wake up, grab my phone, and check my email and calendar for the day. It is probably not the best morning routine but I like to take a few minutes to wake up. Rather than just jump out of bed, this allows me to feel productive in those few minutes. I normally am just deleting junk mail and making sure I don’t have anything that has to be done right away.
Once I realize that I didn’t forget an early morning meeting and nothing catastrophic happened over night, I enter into my day. As I am getting the kids ready for school and myself ready for work I try to think through my day. I ask myself, What could I accomplish today that matters.
I think it is important to be intentional. As a pastor, I could argue that a lot of what I do matters, but I do not want those things to happen by chance because what if today is the day I do nothing that truly matters. Or what if the things I think matter really don’t. I decided long ago that I wanted to make a difference everyday. I can’t say my impact has been huge everyday but I can say it has been intentional everyday.
I have a list of things I think matter and things that I want to be a part of doing. One of those things is being an encourager. It takes nothing from you, but a few moments, to encourage someone else. John Maxwell says, encouragement is the oxygen of the soul. It truly is refreshing to someone’s soul when they are encouraged. Oftentimes, encouragement is the catalyst that can turn someone’s day around.
As James Keller said, “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.” I have found that when you encourage others, it will leave you feeling encouraged.
Find someone to encourage with your life today!
