As I woke up this morning my daughter was in full celebration mode. Today is one of those milestones we celebrate every year. She was somewhat patiently waiting for her brother to get up. See today is Noah’s birthday. January 26th is a day I will never forget. It was already on my radar since it is my brothers birthday, but on January 26th, 2012, a lot changed. It became one of several milestones that I will celebrate forever.
Lory was 36 weeks pregnant and had been having some bleeding and complications for weeks. This day was suppose to be just another checkup at the hospital but everything quickly changed. After going through what was a routine checkup, Lory called me and said they are taking the baby today.
I was at work and went into full “I don’t know what to do” mode. Aubrie, our 14-month-old, was at a friends house, (yes you read that right…14 months) and Lory informed me that before I came to the hospital I needed to clean the house. I had several thoughts at the moment but thought it best if I go home and, at least, clean a little. 🙂
The rest of the day was long. Noah was born we celebrated and then he was sent to the NICU with slight breathing issues that we were told should resolve in a few hours. Five days later he was finally released from NICU. I will share that story another day but we were extremely thankful for all the nurses and crews that worked with Noah and us during that time.
Back to today…When Noah finally gets up Aubrie is so excited because she has already seen that there are presents for Noah in the living room. One of those presents was something she had picked out. I love that Aubrie loves to give as much as she likes to receive.
The rest of his day will be filled with moments that he picks and moments that celebrate his personality. Moments that celebrates the things he likes and the little person that God has made him into.
As I was thinking about my son today and the love and excitement that I have for him, I started thinking about the moments that God celebrates with us. The moments that he looks at us and sees our joy and sees our passions as we find our purposes in life. I started thinking, what are the milestones that God celebrates in my life like I celebrate my son.
As I get older, my birthday is less something that I celebrate but as a parent my kids birthdays are huge. They represent huge moments of life change for me. So even though I may not celebrate my milestones that much…I definitely celebrate my kids moments constantly.
One of the things that I love about being in ministry is seeing people find their God-given purpose and using their passions and talents to pursue and accomplish that purpose. As a parent, I can’t wait to see my kids find those moments as well.
If you are still chasing your purpose let me recommend a book that I recently read called Breaking Busy by Alli Worthington. In this book Alli tells her story and helps you:
- Understand that whatever your age or season of life, new adventures are waiting for you. Walking in your God-given destiny is the best kind of life you can live.
- Learn how to stop chasing what leaves you empty and start doing what you were created to do.
- Identify the common lies you believe and how to strip their power from your life.
- Recognize that your passions and talents can give you clues into your purpose in life.
- Discover how to overcome feeling a constant pressure to be all things to all people.
If you have ever felt like there is something missing from life and you just can’t figure out what it is, even though it feels like you are busier and busier all the time, this book is for you.
You have to start breaking busy before the busy breaks you.
Let me encourage you today to make sure you are following God’s plan for your life. Joy is found in the middle of God’s plan for your life.
